The New Era of Energy Performance Contracts:
The Long-Term Value of a Root-Cause Solution

Presented by: Jack Waters, Assistant Superintendent of Business, Mineola Public Schools, Dr. Michael Nagler, Superintendent, Mineola Public Schools and Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Business, Ecosystem

School districts have leveraged Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs) to address capital needs, with many districts having completed two and three phases.

Using the example of the Mineola EPC project, the group will discuss:

  • The difference between an integrated EPC (IEPC) and a traditional EPC.
  • Procurement models: the pros and cons of simple payback vs Net Present Value)
  • Innovation in engineering: A deep look into steam systems and steam to hot water conversions (Mineola is the first steam to hot water conversion in NYS K12 done under an EPC)
  • Short-term, long-term, and ongoing annual benefits to a district’s budget
  • How school districts should approach an EPC to maximize their financial benefits and provide a more comfortable, efficient, and safe learning environment for their students.
