ASBO Mourns the Passing of Past President Gregory E. Carlson

It is with great sadness we report the passing of former NYSASBO President Gregory E. Carlson on Thursday, July 12, 2018 after courageously battling illness for the past several years. Greg received the Philip B. Fredenburg Award for Outstanding Service in 2017, the Association’s most prestigious honor. The Board also voted to name the Outstanding SBO of the Year Award after Greg and he attended this year’s Education Summit to present the award. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gregory Carlson at St. Bernard's Church, 52 New St., Sharon, CT 06069 on Saturday (July 21, 2018) at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Kenny Funeral Home, 41 Main St., Sharon, CT 06069on Friday (July 20, 2018) between 4 and 8 PM.An obituary can be read here.
To those who wish to honor his memory, we are accepting donations to support his two twin passions skiing and public education. As a PSIA Level II ski instructor, Greg taught at Ski Butternut for 25 years and often supported underprivileged skiers by donating ski equipment, ski clothing or his time. He spent an equal number of years involved at all levels of the Association ranging from Chapter President to Membership Committee Chair and Board President.
Donations will be accepted in his name to either support the underprivileged participate in skiing or towards the Past Presidents Scholarship which supports individuals pursuing the SDBL certification.
