Of the 11 districts with defeated budgets in June, one adopted a contingency budget, while the other 10 chose to hold a re-vote. Voters approved seven of these budgets. A total of four districts will be required to adopt contingency budgets for the 2020-21 school year.

Because of the state aid freeze and potential for mid-year cuts, proposed levy increases (2.2% statewide) outpace growth in overall spending (1.8% statewide).

]]> Mon, 1 Jun 2020 05:00:00 GMT Ninety-Eight Percent of School Districts Anticipate Staying Within the Tax Cap https://www.asbonewyork.org/news/news.asp?id=561143 https://www.asbonewyork.org/news/news.asp?id=561143 ASBO has released an analysis of the March 1 Tax Cap filings that shows most school districts are proposing budgets for 2020-21 that comply with the tax cap. Overall, the statewide maximum allowable levy increase is 2.95 percent and school districts are proposing a 2.69 levy increase. There are 13 school districts that indicated they plan on proposing overrides. Twelve districts have negative levy limits for 2020-21.

Voters in each of these districts had failed to pass their 2018-19 budget proposals during the first budget vote in May. Three school districts saw their second budget proposal defeated and will be required to adopt contingency budgets with no levy increase for 2018-19.
