The past couple of years have been exceptionally difficult for us as professionals, and as individuals. These challenges have left many of us, most notably our children, with feelings of isolation and frustration. As School
Business Officials, we shoulder the weight of a great many things on our own and always find ways to “make it work”. This kind of strength is what makes our profession so outstanding and, together, we make an immeasurable
difference in the lives of millions of people. This year’s theme, “Strength in Numbers”, represents how much stronger we are together and what we can achieve in unity. It is our pleasure to welcome you to the first
in-person Education Summit since 2019. We look forward to seeing you in June!

Data Privacy & Security - Can I cut a P.O. for Bitcoin? 1 CTLE
The answer is no. But when your network gets compromised, what will you do? How will you get your data back? Will the insurance company want to pay the ransom? Do you even have coverage? The pandemic has focused
us on things that we never thought schools would have to think about. A heightened awareness of the threats posed by cyber criminals is everywhere from infrastructure to healthcare to retail, and yes, K-12
education. Like it or not, cybersecurity is not just for geeks anymore. In this session we will explore what you need to be thinking about from a technology systems and executive leadership perspective to
protect your district from falling victim to an ever-expanding universe of threats. This is not about the boxes and wires; it's about the questions you should be asking to make sure the district is as safe
as possible.

Academic ROI - Using Academic Return on Investment to Change the Culture of Data-Informed Decision Making 1 CTLE | 1 CPE
One of the many challenges that School Business Officials face throughout their career is balancing efforts to support new initiatives, while being constrained by both limited resources and the talk of initiative
fatigue within the organization. These potential barriers to strategic spending are real but can be managed with thoughtful analysis of current expenditures and a plan to use data to constructively inform
decision-making. As the federal stimulus dollars provided in the CARES, CRRSA, and ARP grants provide a much needed “shot-in-the-arm” for school districts struggling with the impacts of COVID, school leaders
must leverage these new resources towards programs that have the greatest impact on students without compounding the issue of initiative fatigue. Additionally, School Business Officials must balance the
immediate needs of the district with the potential legacy costs that may result from spending without a proper plan for implementation. Purchasing mobile devices to build a 1:1 technology program may seem
appealing given our extended period of remote learning, but how will we replace these devices when the grants expire? Similarly, there is pressure to increase staffing to support social emotional learning
and academic learning loss and, while these may be justifiable staffing expenditures, school leaders need to ensure that there is a plan to either discontinue these supports when the grant(s) expire or reallocate
funds in the general budget to continue these services in perpetuity. This period of federal stimulus support makes this an opportune time for School Business Officials to be leaders in implementing the
framework of Academic Return on Investment to change the culture of data-informed decision making.
