5Sight’s analytical tools provide valuable data for comparing salaries in your district with your peer school districts. In this tip, we’ll run through a few of these options.
With 5Sight, you can specify the comparisons you want to make. The graph below compares six districts with similar demographic and geographic characteristics. It shows the salary and experience for each high school teacher with a master’s degree. While there is a clear relationship between experience and salary, the data show variation within, and especially between, districts.

The second graph looks at all full-time guidance counselors employed in the same set of school districts. There is still a relationship between experience and salary, but it is not as clear as in this first graph.

Another tool 5Sight offers is direct comparisons of salary steps by districts that have submitted theirs. Currently there are data from more than 150 districts in 5Sight.
The graph below compares the first 10 salary steps across four rural school districts that are located near each other and have similar enrollment profiles. Two of the districts have fairly linear steps, while the other two have jumps at certain points. As a business official, knowing current and future salary trajectories for your district and your peers is important.

5Sight provides a comprehensive set of data analysis tools, available from the analytics menu. You can easily save comparison groups you create, making it easy to look at multiple peer groups for your district. This week’s note looked at school districts within a single county and found significant differences in share and actual per pupil amount of spending.
By combining powerful public sector business intelligence software with ready-to-use analytics tools, 5Sight generates detailed and data-driven perspectives on organizational and peer performance to accelerate insights and put decisions on the fast track.
