Using 5Sight to visualize and compare trends in enrollment and student need.
This tip shows how 5Sight lets users easily visualize and compare enrollment trends over time. To start, I created two comparison groups of school districts, with similar characteristics and enrollment trajectories.
The three districts in the first group have between 5,000 and 5,500 students and have experienced moderate enrollment growth. The blue line on the chart the share of students who are eligible for free- and reduced-price lunch, while the green line shows the share of enrollment who are English language learners. This chart shows how similar districts can have significant differences in the presence and growth of student need.

The second group of districts are larger than the districts in group one, but unlike the earlier group, these districts are all experiencing significant enrollment declines. While they all share this challenge, the blue and green lines show that these districts have different trajectories with regards to student need.
