Using 5Sight to visualize and compare district per student revenues and expenses.
This tip shows how 5Sight lets users easily visualize and compare school district per student revenues and expenses data. In this note, we’ll compare revenues and expenses per student in two neighboring high-need Rural school districts. As shown in the bar chart produced by 5Sight below, School District 1 has per student revenues of $34,000 per student expenses are $37,000. By contrast, School District 2 has per student revenues of $34,000 but per student expenses of just $32,000.

5Sight also lets us look at per student revenues by source. In the stacked bar chart below, green represents funding from federal sources, orange represents funding from state sources, and blue represents funding from local sources. School District 2 receives greater revenue per student from federal and local sources than does School District 1, which receives greater revenue per student from state sources. 5Sight also permits granular analysis for per student function expenses and object spending per student (not pictured here).
