Using 5Sight to compare changes in Special Education spending between districts

This tip shows how 5Sight lets users compare spending and revenue between districts. For this tip, we focus on Special Education spending using the Special Education Cost per Student tool, which is available under the financial menu. Our comparison group is five small enrollment districts (1,000-1,500 students) that are slightly rural and average-need.

In each chart, the districts are listed in alphabetical order. The first chart shows data from 2018, showing special education spending as a share of operating expenses and the actual per pupil spending amount. In this chart, the second district down spends 17.27 percent of its operating budget on special education. This is the second highest per pupil amount between these districts. 5Sight also includes data from previous years.

The second chart shows data from five years earlier. The average expense between the districts is 2.5 percentage points lower as is the overall per pupil spending.

By combining powerful public sector business intelligence software with ready-to-use analytics tools, 5Sight generates detailed and data-driven perspectives on organizational and peer performance to accelerate insights and put decisions on the fast track.
