Preparing for Year End With the end of the fiscal year looming, districts are looking for qualifying data to suggest they will end the year in good fiscal health; spending less and receiving more dollars than budgeted. Leading up to the close, June is typically one of the highest appropriations months for districts. With this said, there is value in being able to assess and communicate year-end results in advance for both planning and compliance purposes. Data such as Year-to-Date (YTD) measures and annual comparisons allow districts to answer the following: Where were we at this time of year last year? The year before? What can we anticipate in the last month of fiscal activity? Will we land compliant to state standards around Unassigned Fund Balance? Are there any opportunities to set excess funds in reserves? By incorporating this type of analysis into the close out process, a district can approach year-end with confidence and trust in the decisions they are making and the conversations they are having with stakeholders.
