ASBO New York Partner Frontline (Forecast5) Presents Monthly Data & Analytics Tip
Wednesday, December 13, 2023
With the 23-24 school year well underway, it may be beneficial to start looking ahead to the 24-25 school year. December is the perfect time to review your assumptions and have conversations with stakeholders and start a “what-if” list. Before meeting with your administrators or staff, do your homework! As you prepare, you may want to think about these items:
- What are your budget parameters?
- Do you have a line-item budget? If so, how is it doing halfway through the year? Do you need to
adjust? - Have you tested the 24-25 budget with your assumptions- salary increase, FTE increase/decrease, revenue increase/decrease, and other expense increases? What are the impacts to the bottom line?
- Do you need to start salary negotiations? If so, what can you afford?
- Do you have any board policies that will impact your budget decisions?
- Is there potential legislation that will impact your budget outcome?
- Know your budget timeline and map out decision points- make it simple on yourself, by noting the
incremental steps to make budget season easier to manage. - What visuals do you have to convey the district’s financial story? How can you easily use the data to explain the decisions that will need to be made?

Utilizing key visuals from Financial Planning Analytics can help make your life easier and convey your district’s story concisely and clearly. Take the time to prepare now and set your mind at ease!
